Numerology is the analysis of numbers and the manner in which they reflect certain character traits and aptitudes. Numerology is often used to interpret a person's character, predict the future are to assist in making important future decisions.

In the Greek and Hebrew alphabets each letter also represented a number. Using this principle numerology attaches a series of digits to each character in a name, date of birth or phrase. Jabir ibn Hayyan who was a Persian alchemist and inventor of many chemical processes which are still used today, surrounded much of his experiments in elaborate numerology based on the Arabic names of the chemicals and substances he used.
